Abstract

Interest in the use of virtual environments and gaming technology to support and extend the learning process is continuing to grow. Studies suggest that the use of games to reinforce traditional learning and demonstrate understanding have a positive impact on students' performance, while the number of institutions with a presence in environments such as Second Life continues to expand. This session will explore some of the issues emerging in this field, including an examination of the range of systems available, technical interoperability and the current and future challenges it poses, and whether there's more to teaching in MUVEs than hype...
