This session will look at a range of issues of interest to the community, around the questions:

What kind of domain models do we really want?
Which models will be fruitful for promoting discussion?
Which models will integrate with the e-framework, and with one another?

This is timely, as a significant interest to the e-learning community, emerging from recent research and development work, is the relationship between e-learning domains, including Portfolio and Assessment, - on which this session will centre, - and how such relationships can be modelled and understood.

As starting points to these discussions, we shall take up

Tom Franklin’s high level domain map of HE, and the ideas assembled in the LEAP 2.0 ontology page. These have been significant elements of recent Portfolio JISCmail list discussions, including: "A model relating education to portfolio tools?" and "Purposes, Functions and Processes of e-portfolio systems". Experiences building on FREMA (the e-learning Framework Reference Model for the assessment domain), and exploring overlap and interaction between the portfolio and assessment domains.

We aim to build on the enthusiastic discussions which have taken place already and to broaden that out to include all CETIS domains, to the extent that mapping between these domains can be envisaged.

It’s hoped that this session will draw out some of the complex issues raised by domain modelling and ontologies, and identify approaches to address these issues in the future.
